DAY 2:

Breakfast and hotel check-out
Stop en route at Shai Game Reserve, home to several animals such as antelopes, green monkeys and baboons.Savor the expansive savannah grassland and woodland and have a memorable experiencebird watching the Senegal parrot, swallow-tailed bee-eater, Vieillot’s barbet, piapiac and the red-shouldered cuckooshrike. Trek for two hours and explore the ancient caves that provided sanctuary for the ancestors of the inhabitants, the Shai people.

Join a motorized mini boat for an idyllic cruise on the Volta River to the hydro plant site,past picturesque hamlets and villages huddling on the banks of this great river which traverses all of Ghana.

DAY 3

Breakfast and hotel check-out
Depart to Bobiri Forest Reserve which houses the Forestry Research Institute. The reserve showcases an arboretum and the Butterfly Sanctuary.  Among the recorded bird species is the highly threatened bare-headed rock fowl. Spend the morning going on a memorable forest hike looking for specialties including Narina Trogon and Shining Drongo.
Continue to Kumasi.
Lunch at a local restaurant
Proceed on a city tour of Kumasi visiting the Manhyia Palace Museum which houses rare collection of artifacts and paraphernalia of the Asante Kingdom, the National Cultural Centre, Prempeh II Jubilee Museum,  Sword and the Kumasi Central Market – the largest open-air market in West Africa.

DAY 4

Breakfast and hotel check-out
Depart Kumasi to Mole in the northern part of Ghana.This six-hour drive through the forest belt will enable you feast your eyes on the transitioning of forest to grassland vegetation; notice the gradual change in architecture, see several food producing villages and a variety of human activity.
Enroute, stop at Buabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary which is one of the only places in Africa where one can easily view the Mona and Black and White Colobus Monkeys in their numbers. Walk along groomed trails and view the monkeys on the ground and in tree canopies. Enjoy a walking tour of the villagewhere you can see monkeys interact with people and learn more about life in the village.

Continue to Mole
Arriveand go on a late afternoon game viewing of Mole National Park which is home to about 600 elephants, baboons, monkeys, monitor lizards, bush bucks, antelopes and several wild animals in their natural habitat.

DAY 5

Enjoy an early morning walking safari to complete game viewing in Mole National Park with its rich variety of wildlife including wild cats.

DAY 6

Breakfast
Visit the Paga Crocodile Pond where sacred crocodiles “harmlessly” interact with guests. Pose for a picture at the back of the reptile reputed to have assisted the founding father of Paga in the settlement some 600 years ago.
Lunch
Visit the Sirigu Pottery and Art Village where women apply age-old techniques to decorate their homes, produce pottery and unique art and crafts. Purchase unique souvenirs and gifts items.

DAY 7

Breakfast and hotel check-out.
Depart Tamale to Kumasi, past several rustic farming communities.
Make a stop at the Kintampo Waterfalls displaying an impressive kaleidoscope of nature’s beauty.

DAY 8

Breakfast and hotel check-out
Depart Kumasi to Elmina in the Central Region, past several farming communities and villages. Notice the change in vegetation from forest belt to coastal shrub as you drive southwards across River Pra.
Arrive for a visit to the Cape Coast Castle originally built by the Swedes in 1652. It served as the seat of the British colonial administration of Gold Coast (now Ghana) till 1877. Go on a comprehensive tour and see the West African Historical Museum, the slave quarters and Negotiation Hall where our ancestors were bargained for and sold.
Continue to Elmina for a tour of St. George’s Castle, the largest in the tropical world built by the Portuguese in 1482 and later used as an auction market for slaves. See the slave dungeons and the condemned cell where slaves who attempted to escape were incarcerated.

DAY 9

Breakfast
Visit Kakum National Park. Go on a morning walk of the Kuntan Trail with its countless medicinal trees. For the young at heart, experience the Canopy Walkway suspended 100 feet above the forest floor for a panoramic view of the flora and fauna of the remaining vestiges of the rainforest.
