DAY 2:           RELAXATION

Have a lie-in and breakfast at the hotel.

Whole day free for individual pursuits. You may spend the day at the popular  Beach,the place of relaxationfor tourists and locals alike. Always brimming with activity, you will see roving buskers, acrobatictroupes and vendors of Ghanaian handicrafts. Sample the local cuisine at the many small eateries dotted around.Concerts with local groups and drummers are often held at weekends and holidays.

Return to your hotel late afternoon

Depart for morning sightseeingof interesting sites in the city. Explore Jamestown, the oldest part of Accra, see the Black Star Square and the Independence Arch before visiting the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and National Museum.

Lunch (on your own)

Spend time at the Arts Center, the marketfor arts and crafts. Purchase gift items which you may bargain for.Watch various craftsmen at work, carving drums, stools, masks or walking sticks.

Return to your hotel mid-afternoon and spend more leisure time on the beach.

Breakfast and check-out.

Depart for the Central Region driving along the coastal road through typical fishing villages.

Arrive late morning at Elmina Castle for a guided tour.This first European edifice in sub-Saharan Africa was built in 1482 by the Portuguese. Originally a garrison to facilitate trade with the local people, it later became one of Ghana’s most infamousslave castles where slaves were held until their shipment to overseas colonies in the Americas.

Continue to Busua in the Western Region. Spend the rest of the afternoon on Busua Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in all of West Africa.

Enjoy a full day at Busua beach. Available activities include surfing and canoe trips with local fishermen. You may also explore the nearby village of Dixcove with its colorful fishing harbor or the Fort Metal Cross, a fully restored garrison,one of Ghana’s smaller colonial forts.

Dinner at hotel or one of several restaurants nearby.

Depart Busua for the Central Region to visit Kakum National Park, one of Ghana’s showpiece parks that is home to one of the last remaining original rain forests in West Africa. Go on a morning walk of the Kuntan Trail with its many trees, where a park ranger will explain how theirmedicinal properties are used by local people. For the young at heart, experience the Canopy Walkway suspended 100 feet above the forest floor. Get a panoramic view of exquisite flora and fauna.

Continue to Accra, arriving by late afternoon.

DAY 7:           CITY SHOPPING


Enjoy an entire day at your own leisure. You may do a bit more shopping and packing for the journey home. Or you might want to explore some other parts of Accra, such as “Oxford Street” at Osu, considered one of the city’s more upscale areas. Orsoak up a few more rays of sunshine at the beach before saying goodbye to Ghana.
