DAY 1            ARRIVAL


Welcome to Ghana! … Akwaaba we say! Your journey to Africa begins when you are met at the airport by Sunseekers Tours staff and transferred to your hotel. Settle in and later you will receive a brief orientation before enjoying a welcome dinner at the hotel.

DAY 2            ACCRA CITY TOUR



After breakfast, depart on a city tour of Accra, visiting uniquely designed special caskets that reflect the beliefs of the local people at the Teshie and Nungua areas. We then proceed to the old city of Accra, the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and the Arts and Crafts market where you may try your bargaining skills on local vendors. Purchase gift items or watch various craftsmen at work, carving drums, stools, masks or walking sticks. After lunch (on your own), complete the day’s tour with a visit to the magnificent campus of the University of Ghana where you may purchase books at the university bookshop. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon and relax at the beach or by the pool.

DAY 3            ACCRA – AKOSOMBO


After breakfast, we depart for Hohoe, driving past several rustic farming communities. Arriving in the town of Hohoe, we continue to the Wli waterfalls, the highest waterfalls in Ghana and in West Africa. Put on your trekking shoes and enjoy a walk through a dense tropical forest, crossing the meandering Agumatse River at eleven small bridges before you arrive at the waterfall. After lunch (on your own) your last stop will be a visit to Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary where the endangered but playful Mona Monkeys are considered sacred and are therefore protected. Walk on well-cleared trails and view the monkeys in their natural habitat. You will also have an opportunity to hand feed them. At the end of the day, check into a hotel located on the Volta River where you can engage in various water-based activities.

DAY 5            ELMINA – BUSUA



Depart after breakfast to Dixcove in the Western Region. Here we will visit the beautifully restored Fort Metal Cross for a guided tour. We then journey to the nearby fishing village of Busua where we will check into a beach front hotel and have the rest of the day to relax at one of the most pristine beaches in Ghana. Here you will have both lunch and dinner at either the hotel restaurant or one of the many other eateries that are nearby.

After breakfast we depart for a full day of adventure. Your first challenge lies in the extreme western part of Ghana, beginning with a footpath through a marsh and then by hand-paddled canoe to Nzulezu, the village on stilts. We then return to the main land and continue on to the Ankasa Forest Reserve. Ankasa lies near the border with Côte d’Ivoire and is one of the richest eco-systems in Ghana, blessed with an abundance of biodiversity. Take a walking tour of the pristine tropical rainforest and its lush vegetation. Here you also visit the Bamboo Cathedral where you can relax in the serene bamboo groove. Engage in eco-sensitive training activities under the guidance of trained environmentalists. Have dinner at the campsite and overnight in Ankasa.

DAY 7            BUSUA – ELMINA

Enjoy a breakfast in the forest and take time to learn more about tropical rain forest environments before your mid-morning departure. From here we journey to the Central Region, passing through plantations of date palms and rubber trees as we reach the coast and the town of Elmina where Europeans first made contact with the people who lived in Ghana before it became known as the Gold Coast. After checking into your hotel and lunch (on your own), spend part of the afternoon touring the ancient township and the vibrant fishing harbor. The rest of the day is for free relaxation at the beach.

After breakfast, we depart for a visit to Kakum National Park, one of Ghana’s showpiece parks that is home to one of the last remaining original rain forests in West Africa. Go on a morning walk of the Kuntan Trail with its many trees, where a park ranger will explain these treesand how they are used by local people for their medicinal properties. For the young at heart, walk on the Canopy suspended 100 feet from the ground, for a panoramic view of the flora and fauna in one of the last remaining vestiges of the rain forest. At midday, have lunch (on your own). We then continue to Elmina Castle for a guided tour of this over 500-year-old edifice built in 1482 by the Portuguese – the first and oldest European building in sub-Saharan Africa. Originally a garrison to facilitate trade with the local people, it later became one of Ghana’s most notorious prisons where captive slaves were kept, pending their shipment to overseas colonies in the Americas. We return to the hotel in the late afternoon. Enjoy a dinner and spend a second night in Elmina before we return to Accra.

DAY 9            ELMINA – ACCRA

Morning relax at the beach or by the hotel’s poolside.

After breakfast check out of the hotel and depart to Accra. Spend the day at the popular La Beach where you will see roving musicians, acrobatic troupes and vendors selling Ghanaian craftsor pay a visit to the National Arts Centre for last minute shopping. Lunch is on your own, Rest of day is free to explore the city on your own before departing to the airport for your flight home.
